SUMMARY:Barriers to Housing: Conversation with Dr. Trey Adcock
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation with Dr. Trey Adcock\, Executive Director of the Center for Native Health. The Center for Native Health works to build thriving Indigenous communities through “the preservation and respectful application of Native knowledge.” \nThis conversation will invite us to learn more about the experiences and challenges facing Indigenous communities and to consider how history\, culture\, systems\, and access to resources can shape the barriers people encounter when seeking stable housing. This conversation is part of St. John’s ongoing effort through the Shelter from the Storm grant to listen\, learn\, and explore ways to better understand and respond to housing challenges in our community. \nWhen: Sunday\, September 27 • 9:30–10:30 AM\nWhere: St. John’s Episcopal Church\, Choir Room\nIf there is significant interest\, we will move to the Parish Hall. \nAll are welcome. Always. \nPlease RSVP so we can prepare for those who plan to attend and arrange the appropriate space.

SUMMARY:Eat Well Spend Less ~ Class Series
DESCRIPTION:Eat Well\, Spend Less is an Uncomplicated Kitchen program created for anyone who wants to make the most of their grocery budget without giving up meals they enjoy. Over the past six years\, we’ve worked alongside home cooks facing the same challenge many families are experiencing right now: grocery prices keep rising\, but the need to put nourishing\, enjoyable meals on the table remains the same.  \nWe know how frustrating it can feel to stretch your food budget while still trying to feed yourself and your loved ones well\, and that’s why we created this program. Through practical tips\, hands-on learning\, and plenty of fun\, we’ll explore ways to make your food dollars go further while building confidence in the kitchen.  \nWhether you’re cooking for one\, feeding a huge family\, or are somewhere in between\, you’ll leave with ideas and strategies you can use right away.  \n \nTogether\, we’ll learn how to: \n\nMake the most of affordable\, nutritious pantry staples\nPrepare budget-friendly proteins\, such as using a whole chicken instead of buying individual cuts\nCreate flexible meal plans that fit your household’s tastes and needs\nBuild a collection of delicious make-ahead freezer meals\nReduce food waste and get more value from the ingredients you buy\n\n \nWHERE AND WHEN: \nThis program will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Downtown Sylva and includes 10 classes covering five topics. Each topic will be offered twice\, once during lunch and once during dinner\, so you can choose the time that works best for your schedule. Every class includes a useful take-home incentive\, and participants who attend at least four of the five topics will receive a special gift at the end of the program. \n \nThe same topic will happen twice in the same week\, and the program dates are as follows: \nDinnertime Classes (Mondays 4:30pm-6pm): \n\nAugust 24th\nAugust 31st\nSeptember 14th\nSeptember 21st\nSeptember 28th\n\nLunchtime Classes (Thursdays 10:30am-12pm): \n\nAugust 27th\nSeptember 3rd\nSeptember 17th\nSeptember 24th\nOctober 1st\n\n\nIf you’re looking for simple\, realistic ways to save money on groceries while still cooking meals you’re excited to eat\, we’d love to hear from you. Please click here to fill out the program interest survey so we can design the program with your needs\, goals\, and challenges in mind.
